The PIC Academy took place in Lederhose (Germany) for the seventh time on Tuesday, June 2, 2026. This year’s Academy welcomed around 40 experts from industry, research, and development to discuss “Precision Piezoceramic Solutions for High-Tech Medical Applications.”
Following opening remarks and moderation by Dr. Franziska Buch (Marketing, PIC), as well as a welcome speech by Dr. Patrick Pertsch (Managing Director, PIC), participants enjoyed a high-caliber program of expert presentations. Keynotes were given by researchers and medical technology experts from Dresden University of Technology and Nuremberg Institute of Technology, highlighting the latest developments in medical ultrasound applications and innovative approaches to leveraging ultrasound technologies for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.
The program also featured presentations from numerous industry users: Laerdal Medical presented lifelike infant pulse simulation technology for medical training and simulation. Richard Wolf GmbH, in collaboration with RWTH Aachen University, showcased simulation-driven design and optimization of ultrasound transducers, covering everything from ceramic materials to tissue interaction. Further highlights included the presentation of a novel ultrasound-based brain neuromodulation system featuring 2D matrix-array transducers (by Fraunhofer Institute for Biomedical Engineering), as well as advances in translating ultrasound microrobotics from preclinical models to clinical applications (by Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich / ETH Zurich).
In addition, the Academy provided valuable opportunities for networking and professional exchange. A special highlight of the event was a guided tour through the offices and the production facilities, offering guests an inside look at the development and manufacturing of piezoceramic components and systems.
