133 New Semiconductor Plants Under Construction: PI Is Always In on the Action

September 13, 2022

In 2021, for the first time, the global semiconductor industry invested more than 102 billion US dollars in the equipment of existing factories for semiconductor elements and the construction of new ones.

That was an increase of 44 percent compared to the previous year. Investments will be made at the same high level in the years to come. As SEMI, the global industry association with 2,500 member companies, stated: Currently, 133 new semiconductor factories and production lines are under construction or being planned around the world.

In almost all projects, PI is represented with components and systems for high-precision motion within the production lines. As a high-tech supplier, we make positioning accuracies in the nanometer range possible, i.e., with millionths of a millimeter precision. This level of precision is a decisive prerequisite for numerous process steps in the manufacturing and quality assurance of new chip generations. In comparison: A human hair is about 80,000 nanometers thick.

With our competencies and technologies, over many decades, we have made ourselves an indispensable partner of the global leading supplier companies for the semiconductor industry. To maintain this position, it is necessary to continuously deal with the requirements of semiconductor production. This is a task that Global Research & Platforms focuses on.
