Dear Colleagues,

With great enthusiasm and pride, I want to inform you that our colleague, Dr. Frank Oster, Global Head of IP, who joined PI in 2008, has successfully completed the European Qualification Examination (EQE) of the European Patent Office (EPO) and has now been awarded the title of 'European Patent Attorney'.

The EQE is renowned to be one of the most demanding professional examinations and the failure rates lie at 60 to 70%. The candidates acquire deep as well as varied knowledge from the areas of technology, law, and administration. The examination requires a preparation in private self-study of approximately 650 hours and entails four tests (A to D), which Dr. Frank Oster successfully completed in 2010 (A), 2011 (B), 2013 (C), and 2021 (D). With this EPO title, Dr. Frank Oster can now represent companies with all affiliated companies before the EPO.

I want to share the statement shown below with you, which Dr. Frank Oster replied to my father, Dr. Karl Spanner, after he congratulated him.

I remember with pleasure, how you accompanied me on a large part of my journey toward patent management and supported me thanks to your strong interest in it and enthusiastic manner. Without you and your engagement for this topic, I might never have come so far.

Dr. Frank Oster

Dr. Frank Oster, I congratulate you warmly for this great achievement and I am particularly happy that we now have a 'European Patent Attorney' at PI!

Best regards

Markus Spanner

Chief Executive Officer
