Markus Spanner Travels to Japan for First Time Since Complete Take-Over of PGW
For almost three years, it was impossible to travel to Japan. In March 2023, our CEO Markus Spanner was finally able to personally meet all PI colleagues in Japan for the first time since the complete take-over of the PI subsidiary PGW.
Together with Raymond Queck, CEO PI China, Takuma Yagi, Managing Director PI Japan, and Dick Moerman, Business Development, he visited both PGW and PI Japan.
In the presence of the previous PGW owner, Hayata Watanabe, also known as Mr. Granite, Markus Spanner greeted employees at the PGW production site in Gifu. He recalled starting the integration phase as a PGW project together with Hayata Watanabe directly after the acquisition. Takuma Yagi and Dick Moermann implemented the integration project.
As you are all still onboard, the integration project was obviously very successful.
He also emphasized the multiple strategic advantages PGW brings to the PI Group.
On the one hand, PGW's expertise in granite perfectly complements our portfolio. On the other hand, their expertise in engineered systems suits our investments in China perfectly. Together we have competitive advantages and are even closer to our customers.
Two days later, Markus Spanner, Raymond Quek, and Dick Moermann visited their colleagues from PI Japan in their office premises in Kawasaki, Tokyo. Since June 2022, the premises of the PGW engineering and sales teams are located in the same building, which is the ideal basis for collective and close cooperation.

Tomobumi Muraoka, PGW's CTO presented the laser marker demonstrator to the visitors, which Markus Spanner believes is the right path to take: "We can provide our customers with considerable additional advantages by turning our expertise and products into complete subsystems. Furthermore, Asia is the region with the fastest growth rates world-wide."
Takuma Yagi and Ni Wang had perfectly organized the smooth trip to Japan.
