PI Awakens Interest of Physics Students from KIT
Mid-July 2023, the Department of Physics of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and the Working Group Young DPG (jDPG) organized the inspiring “Physiker*innen im Beruf” (EN: “Physicists at work”) event which was specially targeted at KIT physics students.
The aim of the event was to highlight career opportunities outside of the university to physics students and to get them interested in different companies and organizations. Around 150 students took part in this event.
PI's invitation to this event was accepted by Dr. Sebastian Kuntz, Research Engineer Global Innovation and Scouting (GIS), who also studied physics at the KIT. During a so-called “elevator pitch”, which is a short company presentation, Dr. Sebastian Kuntz presented PI to the physics students and got them interested in the company. In addition to PI, representatives of companies such as ESA, SAP, and EnBW, plus various consulting firms, the environmental authority, and a start-up for quantum simulations also took part in this event.
Following the elevator pitch, the students informed themselves about the individual companies by speaking to the respective contact persons. Sarah Hurst, HR - Administration, gave insights into the different entry opportunities at PI, such as placements, working student activities, and unsolicited applications, whilst Dr. Sebastian Kuntz answered questions on the daily work routine and career opportunities for physicists at PI. Furthermore, it was also possible to awaken the students' interest in placements and final dissertations at PI.
The goal of making PI known to students was achieved. Many of the students had previously never heard of PI but were thrilled that such a highly innovative and interesting company is located in Karlsruhe. At the PI stand, there was a high level of visitor interest, as well as almost three hours of exciting discussions with students.
The “Physiker*innen im Beruf” event was a further vital step to increase public awareness of PI and establish a long-term connection between students from the KIT and PI. We are looking forward to further developments and future job applications from KIT's physics students!
