In January 2023, the annual meeting of the JSSRR (Japanese Society for Synchrotron Radiation Research) took place for the first time again as a physical event. A total of 52 companies participated in the conference exhibition which was held as a hybrid event.

The society includes researchers and facility equipment designers who are using Japan’s major synchrotron radiation facilities. They have also been widely using PI products (for example, hexapods, piezo stages, and Nexline linear actuators) for many years.

The purpose of this conference exhibition was to propose and increase awareness of PGW's granite products as stable base materials for synchrotron radiation facilities requiring high-precision positioning and measuring instruments, and to deepen the exchange with the users.

Although no specific projects came about, we received several future proposals including bases for measuring instruments, porous chucks for holding thin films, and bases for beamline modifications. Granite may be needed for the next generation XFEL line and for the Tohoku University facility where vibration control will be more stringent. Furthermore, there were many inquiries, and we were given valuable input for new PI products, such as hexapods for ultra-high vacuum environments (10^-8Pa), more compact hexapods, rotating air-bearing stages in vacuum chambers, and small linear stages for non-magnetic and vacuum environments based on PI’s innovative Q-motion concepts. While most of these ideas are customizations, we will continue to support these important areas of research.
