It was under the motto of “High-Precision Motion Solutions Made for Industry” that PI presented its solutions for this segment at the world’s most important trade fair for photonics held in San Francisco, CA, at the end of January. “The photonics industry is undergoing a major transition from technology development to series production,” explains Walter Silvesky, Managing Director Commercial at PI USA. “Our trade show theme emphasizes the power of our solutions, especially when it comes to the transition to volume production of photonic components such as silicon-based and photonic integrated components (PICs).”
As the main exhibit, PI presented a new, cost-optimized alignment system for the industrial testing of photonic components at wafer level. It was shown alongside the proven hexapod-based F-712 system and the cost-effective F-836 5-axis system, all generating a large amount of interest at the fair. A set-up that underlined PI's expertise in tracking algorithms and fast tip/tilt mirrors for optical communication in free space also attracted a great deal of attention.
Alongside solutions for photonics, PI showcased a number of further exhibits for other segments. One demonstrator specifically for semiconductor technology was a granite-based 4-axis motion system designed for high-precision metrology applications. The Industrial Automation segment was covered by the new X-417 IMAS system, which was demonstrated in a high-speed laser processing application integrated by our partner Turner Laser Systems. In the Life Sciences area, visitors were able to explore the new U-781 microscope stage and PIFOC fast focusing units, representative of PI’s ongoing commitment to scientific advancement. Further highlights included the H-815 industrial hexapod, which reinforces PI’s leadership in this technology.
“This year’s Photonics West set a new benchmark for PI, achieving a 25 % increase in leads over our previous best,” says Walter Silvesky happily. “This result was driven by rising industry demand, a strategic mix of product demonstrators at our booth, and the dedication of our outstanding team.”
Photonics West is the world’s most important trade fair and conference for the industry. It is organized by SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics. A total of 1,588 exhibitors held more than 5,000 technical presentations for around 24,000 visitors to the trade show.
Our broad technology portfolio, combined with advanced algorithms like FMPA and PI Lightning, enables us to provide the systems our photonics customers need to scale their production. With our deep expertise and commitment to innovation, we help customers achieve higher throughput, greater precision, and a competitive edge in their markets.
