In early October 2023, PI UK participated in the Machine Building Live event held in Birmingham, England. This was an excellent opportunity to present ACS Motion Control and PI solutions for machine builders. For the event, each exhibitor was allocated a compact 3 m x 1 m stand. The day was filled with insightful discussions and exciting demonstrations that revealed advancements in machine building technology, allowing us to network with industry experts, explore innovative solutions, and stay at the forefront of the precision machine building field.

The EXP107 multi-axis system Sunny, which we exhibited to demonstrate the potential of our solutions and the versatility of PI in industrial automation, generated many interesting discussions. Its linear stages enable fast workpiece positioning in the X, Y, and Z axes, while a 6 degrees of freedom (DOF) parallel kinematic hexapod allows the center of rotation of a probe or tool to be fixed at any point in space. A modular ACS motion controller with an EtherCAT® interface provides fast and accurate multi-axis motion, as well as simplified interfacing with third-party sensors and test equipment.

The event was exceptionally well attended and provided a valuable opportunity to strengthen relationships with our long-standing customers and partners. It also served as a platform to connect with potential partners, paving the way for future collaborations. In total, we generated thirty-eight leads and gained insights into the UK’s vibrant machine building and systems integration community.

In an era where precision is paramount, especially as components shrink in size, machine builders are being challenged to create solutions capable of handling miniature components with sub-micron precision. Precise positioning solutions - such as those offered by PI - are essential to ensure high quality end products and avoid costly errors, although efficient and effective motion controllers, motor drives, specialized IOs, and intelligent software tools, are equally important to the equation. ACS Motion Control’s technology seamlessly integrates with encoders and stages to deliver exceptional precision in applications ranging from semiconductor manufacturing to laser processing. Innovative software, including NanoPWM, MotionBoost, ServoBoost, and LearningBoost, optimizes hardware performance to deliver unprecedented throughput and accuracy in high-precision motion control applications.
