At the beginning of June 2023, PI Ceramic welcomed the following employees from the Dresden-based Fraunhofer Institute for Ceramic Technologies and Systems (IKTS):

  • Prof. Dr. Henning Heuer, Head of department: Systems for Testing and Analysis
  • Dr.-Ing. Lars Schubert, Head of department: Condition Monitoring and Test Services
  • Dr. Bianca Weihnacht, Group Manager: Methods for Monitoring Systems
  • Dipl.-Ing. Susan Walter, staff member: Ultrasonic Sensors and Methods

This Fraunhofer Institute uses PI products for the development of ultrasonic solutions for material testing and permanent structural monitoring for its customers.

From PI Ceramic, Dr. Patrick Pertsch, Jörg Gebhardt, Dr. Frank Müller, Timo Scholehwar, Dr. Franz Schubert, and Peter Ditas attended the meeting.

After an introductory round and a tour of the production area, the following topics were discussed for expanding the cooperation: What are the current requirements of the IKTS regarding piezo components and devices for the applications in question? How can the IKTS support us in developing our transducer products? How can we acquire new customers and initiate projects together?

Furthermore, Dr. Schubert and Prof. Heuer presented some of the applications and the IKTS solutions developed for them to around 30 interested colleagues. This included applications and solutions for the inspection or permanent monitoring of railroad tracks, pipelines in power plants, wind turbines, and aircraft engines.

The guests were impressed by our set-up at the site, especially by the wide range of technological possibilities, the order and cleanliness, as well as the modern working environment. They also invited us for a return visit to Dresden to continue the exchange and intensify our cooperation.
