To Meet the Rising Demand: Construction of New Production Facility in USA planned
In the American markets, demand for PI products and solutions has been growing very strongly for years. In addition, the U.S. government is heavily promoting investment in high-tech industries. This is particularly evident in the “CHIPS and Science Act,” which is aimed on creating incentives for semiconductor production, and the “Inflation Reduction Act,” which actively promotes attracting companies to settle in the USA. This will open additional market opportunities for PI USA in the coming years.
To meet the growing demand sustainably with delivery times in line with the market, PI USA has signed the construction contract for a new production facility in Shrewsbury in the U.S. state of Massachusetts. The usable space of 119,575 square feet is three times the space of the current U.S. sites in Auburn, MA, Hopkinton, MA, and Nashua, NH, taken together. From 2025 onwards, PI will manufacture components and system solutions for motion and precision positioning as well as for piezo applications for the North American market at this new facility. At the same time, the development of innovative technologies and products will be advanced further.
Over the past five years, the annual turnover of PI USA has grown by more than ten percent. At the same time, production at our sites in the USA (DPA) has increased by 30 to 50 percent annually. With this new production facility, we lay the foundation based on which we will be able to meet the sturdy growth of the American markets and to manufacture an increasing proportion of our products directly locally. This will enable us to meet customer requests more flexibly and quickly.
Even after completion of the new facility in Shrewsbury, production will continue at the current sites for a transitional period. The new production facility will offer the possibility to manufacture here additional products such as piezo motors and tip/tilt systems for the Photonics market segment.
