On June 28, 2021, Walter Silvesky started as Vice President Sales Americas at PI USA under David Rego

Walter, how did you experience PI in your first year as Vice President of Sales of PI USA?

I feel like I have come to PI at an extraordinary time with unprecedented growth occurring in all of our primary markets. At the same time, the supply chain challenges which have made keeping up with the demands of our customers is also something that has made my first year with the company something I could not have expected.

I have been greatly impressed by how PI’s team as a whole comes together, day after day, to continuously perform at their very best while keeping a very positive outlook that the work we are all doing will position the company for even greater future successes.

What are your findings?

Having been in the precision motion industry for my entire three-decade-plus career, I had watched PI from the outside become one of the clear leaders in the industry. PI is a company competitors aspire to be from the standpoint of not just the relevance of our products and technologies, but how customers will often brag about how many years they have been relying on PI solutions.

Any strong relationship is based on mutual respect and admiration which is exactly how I quickly found after joining the company, that PI views and support its customers explaining very clearly why PI customers are so loyal.

What are your main areas of focus in the implementation?

When joining any new organization, especially one that serves such a wide variety of applications and customer types, becoming familiar with what and who exactly makes the company operate can be a daunting experience.

In my first months after coming on board, my goals where focused on how things work and getting to know my team. With several former colleagues making the move to PI years earlier and always hearing from them how happy they were to have made the career changes they did, I was confident that I’d find not just familiar faces but also a stellar group of professionals.

Almost a year in, I can say without any doubt that I am now working alongside one of the best sales groups I have been part of or managed. Performance Automation is an area in which PI is looking to expand its presence and is also the area I have spent most of my career involved with.

As such my recent efforts have been keenly focused on understanding who we are today in the area of Performance Automation and what we need to do to expand in our target markets. In another area of aimed at the future of PI, I have implemented a structured approach to aid our sales team in optimizing their efforts in identifying and developing tomorrow’s key customers.

What drives you as a person?

I have always been motivated by teamwork that leads to winning. Even in sports, my preference has been to be part of the success of a collective group rather than the singular efforts of individual sports. I take great pride and experience joy in sharing those wins with those who have been part of a winning effort.
